“Home Education” – by the House of Lords

The following is current by http[://lordsoftheblog.net for public ‘feedback’ :-

Home education Skype broadcast meeting

Lord SoleyIn January I held a meeting for people who were concerned about my home education bill. This was an opportunity for them to ask questions about the bill

Some people were unable to attend the meeting due to a range of reasons including child care or long travel and they contacted me stating their disappointment. Therefore, I will be hosting another session over a Skype for Business broadcast session online. This will be the first of its kind where members of the public can ‘attend’ a meeting at Westminster in this way.

This is the first time an event of this type is happening at Westminster and it is still in its experimental phase however the technical team at Westminster are working hard to ensure that it runs smoothly on the day.

It will be an online broadcast session only, so you will be unable to attend in person and it will take place on Tuesday 24th April between 5pm and 7pm.

The committee stage of the Bill is scheduled to take place at the House of Lords on Friday 27th April 2018.

The Bill is designed to create a register of home educated children and will have in it a clause that requires local education authorities to give information and advice when a home educating parent requests it. This is designed to help those who find it difficult to access all the information they require. It has the added advantage of putting into law an assumed right to home educate. This is an important right and one which I have always supported.

Registration makes it easier to check that children are not only getting the range of educational experience they need but also that we have increased protection for that small but very important minority of children who are taken out of school to be radicalised, trafficked or abused. The rights of the child are important to me and to society.

If you would like to tune in to this session, you can register your interest in two ways:

  1. Send a letter stating your interest to join the session with your home address and contact details including your email address to Lord Clive Soley, Westminster, London SW1A 0AA.
  2. Send an email stating your interest to join the session with your home address and contact details to officeoflordsoley@parliament.uk

If you have a question to ask it would be helpful if you could send it in advance when you register your interest however it is okay if you wish to ask it on the day although the two hour slot will obviously restrict numbers to some extent.

Please note that priority will be given to those who did not attend the meeting earlier this year and that registering interest is not a guarantee that you will be sent an invitation to the meeting. Time will limit numbers. If you are sent an invitation to tune in, you will be sent instructions to your inbox on how to join the session closer to the time. You cannot join the session if you do not have an email account.

In preparation for the session please take some time to have a look at the following points of information:

    Once again it needs to be taken-on-board at some high Table,
    that firstly
    Schools, universities and NVQ-colleges Training for Careers & Job Workplaces [40 hours/week] Skills
    needs to be in-detail-distinguished from
    Lifeplace Enablement Education for living [128 hours/week].Secondly, that Lifeplace enabling needs to provide to the entire generic Public access to, and opportunities to learn, practice, and implement, the many advances in Knowledge and Practical-Know-How that the main schools, colleges, and universities Training is excluding –including such lists as are visitable in not-for-profit, power nor prestige e-sites

    which relevantly to “home-education” include many overlooked and excluded advances such as
    “Effort” (Laban & Lawrence) ;
    “Wisdom of the Body Moving” (Hartley) ;
    “Awareness Through Movement” (Feldenkrais);
    “Six Thinking Hats” (E. de Bono) ;
